Great news! The library will be open for business Tuesday, September 2. I look forward to getting books into the hands of students. Particularly a book I just finished reading entitled The Glourious Adventures of the Sunshine Queen.
This book has been on my "to read" list ever since someone dropped it in the Awesome Box at Marshall Lane, when I still worked there. I finally got around to reading it and it is indeed awesome. The story takes place around the turn of the last century in a small town in Missouri. An outbreak of diphtheria leads the townsfolk to send their children away until the diphtheria runs its course. Three of the children, escorted by the schoolteacher, meet up with a theater troop on a dilapidated river boat and the adventures ensue from there. Daring escapes and rescues and gathering strange characters along the way, the group becomes a large extended family by the end of their journey. A charming and fun read, I'll be adding this to my favorites list. Look for it in the library when it opens next week!
